The new SOL Application Process
Welcome to the Servants of the Light (SOL) new applicants page. We're glad that you are seriously interested in the real art and science of Magic. This page will guide you in the online application process for potential new members.
If you've studied this, and possibly other SOL sites, you will be familiar with the goal of SOL, which is to provide authentic and trusted access to the Western Mystery Tradition. It has done this successfully for thousands of students in over 23 countries around the world.
To join the SOL School as a student is to embark on an exciting journey of personal discovery and empowerment. This should not be interpreted as empowerment for personal gain. SOL has a long-standing moral tradition and shuns the idea of fast-won magical power for personal advantage. This is not to say that you shouldn't set goals that benefit you; simply that such goals should also benefit others as part of an overall plan for your life.
Your first step is to download the Joining Brochure from the left panel of the Home page. This spells out in detail what is expected of the SOL student. We operate a demanding training process and we are, most certainly, not a "light touch" School. If you have any doubts about your ability to commit to the required level of study and application, please do not proceed past this point. Students who drop out after a year have wasted much of their own time as well as the precious and personal efforts of a SOL Supervisor. The SOL Course takes many years to complete and provides a unique and well-respected entry into the Western Mystery Tradition. You may browse excerpts from the course lessons by selecting the option under the Lessons menu above.
Now, assuming you have read the Joining Brochure and wish to proceed, you first step is to obtain an Application Sequence Number (ASC). We use these to allow access to the online application forms that are contained in the site under the overhead Join menu. You won't be able to see these at present, but when you have your ASC number, and we have the capacity to take in a few more students, we will email you to say that your access to the application forms is now available and that you may formally apply.
To go with your online application, you will need to separately register with the UK site and then go back in and fill in your full contact details. This is described in detail in the PDF Site Guide on the left panel of the Home page. We need full contact details for anyone applying. Please note that the website is different to the online application forms and the contact details are needed on both.
This may all sound a little complex, but it is necessary for many reasons. SOL is run entirely by volunteers. You would be joining a community in which service is valued very highly. Our administrators have full-time jobs as well as carrying out their SOL work, which they do, gladly and voluntarily, but it means that our website needs to be as automated as possible - this is in sharp contrast to the personal supervision you will receive once you are a SOL student.
We charge as little as possible for the SOL Lessons (currently £9.95 per monthly lesson) and we do not expect you to provide any donations or other forms of payment. Given this, you can see that we have to have a process at the front-end that allows us to take in only those students that we can give the right attention to, and in the quantity we can cope with. The ASC number is the key to doing this fairly. If you applied during the year we were closed, and sent us your application forms under the old system, tell us, and we will place you higher up the waiting list via the ASC number coding.
We care deeply about our students. Of those that complete the course, most go on to become active members of the SOL Community around the world, joining us at Gatherings, workshops and other training events.
We look forward to welcoming you into the SOL School.
If you have read the Joining SOL Brochure and are ready to begin the process, click here to send us an email to say you are requesting an ASC number as the first stage of your application. Remember to state if you have previously applied and when, and tell us which country you live in.
